Rehearsals
I am pleased to announce that the Nailsworth Silver Band – Training Band will restart on Monday 29th October. The rehearsal will start at 6pm and will last for 45 minutes. We have changed the day of rehearsals to allow better integration with the main band which rehearses on Monday evening. As members develop they will be given the opportunity to stay on and play with the main band. This will give them valuable experience of playing with the main band and pave the way for the transition between the Training Band and the main band. The doors to the band room will open at 5:45 so please ensure the Training Band members arrive promptly with their music and are ready to play at 6pm.
Training Band Leader
Nailsworth Silver Band has appointed a new Training Band Leader – Philip Storer. As well as being a very accomplished musician (principal cornet for Lydbrook Band) Philip works as a peripatetic music teacher for Gloucestershire Music. Philip is a local man and is really looking forward to taking on his new position. He has the backing of the Nailsworth Silver Band Committee to ensure that he has the resources to develop his members which will ultimately guarantee the future of the main band.
The Framework
To safeguard your child the Nailsworth Silver Band committee have adopted a framework for the Training Band. This framework has enabled us to secure the assistance of Gloucestershire Music (LEA Music Service) who is happy to recommend pupils to join Nailsworth Training Band. We are the only local band which has pursued this and are therefore the only local band that Gloucestershire Music can currently recommend for young players. We will also be extending our links to local schools and organisations to ensure that a wide circle of children are aware of the Training Band and are able to take advantage of our facilities and high quality tuition.
Fees
The fees, payable by cheque to Nailsworth Silver Band, will remain at £15 per term which will include instrument hire where required. In addition we will ask for a £30 deposit for all band instruments, refundable on return of the instrument provided it has been well looked after. These are nominal fees and will go towards maintaining and purchasing instruments and music for the Training Band and contribute towards overheads. Please bring a cheque for £7.50 (+ £30 for instrument deposit) to the first rehearsal.
Sustainability
As a committee we have worked hard to provide the best possible
environment for Nailsworth Training Band. We have deliberately kept
the fees down to cover costs rather than being a source of revenue for
the band. In order for the Training Band to continue and to flourish
we ask that the members make a strong commitment and make every effort
to attend each rehearsal and to arrive ready to play at 6pm. If the
member is unable to attend a rehearsal for any reason it is imperative
that the Training Band leader is informed as soon as possible. It is
also important that the members take time out to practice during the
week as per the Training Band leader’s request. As a committee we will
be promoting the Training Band as detailed above but we would also ask
you to promote it amongst your friends and colleagues.
