Nailsworth Silver Band Storms Home!

(Stround News and Journal 24th February 2005)

Nailsworth Silver Band returned smiling from their visit to the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Entertainment Contest on the 13th February 2005 by storming into 2nd Place.

All Bands in the Contest played a 20 minute programme of music chosen by themselves to woo the adjudicator with their ‘entertaining talents’. The programme had to include a solo, for Nailsworth this was Alan Bruton on Euphonium playing a piece called ‘Varied Mood’. Amongst the pieces played by Nailsworth was a very special interpretation of ‘Three Blind Mice’, and a piece called ‘The James Bond Collection’. Musical Director Wesley Thomas was heard to say ‘They’re a great band, a very talented group of people, lovely to be with and a well deserved result!’ In November the Band won the Cup for having the most players under 14, at this contest their youth continued to shine.

Recently Nailsworth Silver Band put on a concert to raise funds for the Tsunami Disaster and raised over £1,100. The money will be directed to projects in Sri Lanka and include a House Building Project and the purchase of Fishing Boats. The concert was organised by Rosemary Stephens a parent of one of the young players.

Their next concert will be a ‘St George’s Day Concert’ on the 24th April at Box Village Hall, details will be available shortly.
